Fantastic Footsteps Charity Support
At Footsteps one of our most important lessons is to think about how we can be kind to other people, consider what they need and to learn about those in different situations to us. As such our charity and fundraising days are invaluable in promoting great discussion, vocabulary, understanding and compassion. It’s been a busy time and we thought this update might make you smile as much as us.
Sponsored Listen
At Footsteps Watermead we took part in a Sponsored Listen with Usbourne books. You can read all about it here. We are proud to report that we have raised an unbelievable £590 to spend on new books for us to read and enjoy. We are very grateful to Usbourne books. We originally raised about £455 but as we had raised such a fantastic amount, Usbourne had added an extra bonus. We cannot wait to explore all the incredible books on offer and for all the literary adventures yet to come.
Comic Relief
Across our Footsteps families, children, staff and parents we have been proud to support the incredible work of Comic Relief. The money raised by Red Nose Day in 2021 will help tackle homelessness, domestic abuse and the stigma around mental health. We have collected well over £100 so far so a huge thanks for your support. This year’s theme of “Share a Smile” was a fantastic inspiration for a whole host of activities. Activities included dressing in our Pyjamas, red nose day biscuit decorating, red nose crackers for snack time, pin the red nose on the board, making our own red noses and pulling lots of silly faces to make us smile!
Rock Your Socks
World Down Syndrome Day is a global awareness event acknowledged on 21st March. Not only does the global community celebrate Down’s syndrome, the day allows focus on a particular issue. This year, the global theme is “We Decide” which supports effective and meaningful participation as a core human right. Inclusive participation is so important to us, and at Footsteps Maple Cross we wanted to help spread the word by wearing #LotsOfSocks! So on Friday 20th March we showed our support by donning our best socks. But not just any socks…we wore brightly coloured, mis-matched socks. It was a great way to explore this important topic with the children in a fun and memorable way.
We couldn’t do it without all the incredible efforts of our amazing Footsteps team, enthusiastic participation from our incredible children and support from our awesome families. THANK YOU!
