Community Generosity Brings New Books and Resources to Children at Footsteps Watermead

In an amazing collaboration with Usborne Books, children from Footsteps Watermead participated in a ‘Sponsored Listen’ event, raising funds to enhance their educational resources. The initiative received an additional boost when Hale Leys Shopping Centre generously offered their sponsorship.

Combining the contributions from both the children and Hale Leys, the effort culminated in the delivery of over 100 books, games, and puzzles valued at over £1,000. 

This diverse collection includes materials designed to support children’s Personal, Social, and Emotional Development (PSED), encourage number recognition and counting, enhance rhyming skills, and stimulate discussion and math skills. 

From Puzzle books to stories on dinosaurs, festivals, animals, sea-life, vehicles, and the world around us were included, as well as, some cherished classics. 

Staff members were each given a budget to select books they felt would benefit their key children the most. This allowed them to fill in gaps, replace well-loved resources, and introduce new and exciting materials.

The entire pre-school family is eagerly anticipating sharing these new resources. The success of this initiative highlights the vital role of community support in enriching educational experiences.
