Based in the grounds of Maple Cross JMI School, this freshly renovated, flexible and welcoming space, alongside the use of our own garden, the school field and large open spaces, ensures that your children have plenty of exercise, fresh air and opportunity to enjoy a healthy life style.

Maple Cross is committed to providing all children from 3 months to 8 years with a safe place for living, learning and accessing a wide array of experiences which are valuable to emotional, social and physical wellbeing. Our commitment to the principles of Forest School are key to the opportunities we provide at Maple Cross. Our aim is to equip our children with skills, knowledge and confidence which is designed to carry them forward into both their school and personal lives:
- Building confidence and independence
- Feeling empathy for others and nature
- Physical fitness – Running around and climbing trees develops muscle strength, aerobic fitness, and coordination
- Improved mental and physical health
- Learning through experience
- Exposing children to manageable risks
Our Breakfast Club
Children at Maple Cross JMI from Nursery through to children in Year 6, will be able to use our term-time only service. Breakfast club will run from 7.30am to 8.50am and children will be provided with a choice of cereals and toast. Children will be taken to class for registration.
After School Club
After school there will be sessions from 3.15-4.15pm where there will be structured clubs available These will include sessions such as cooking, drama, Spanish, art, lotions and potions/slime and forest school). There will also be After School Care available where the session is booked from 3.15-5.30. Children are also able to stay on in After School Care following any clubs attended. Costs include snack and drinks. Children will be collected by our DBS and qualified staff from School.
Meet Kathy – Kathy is our amazing manager at Maple Cross. She has been at Footsteps from day one and opening the nursery back in 2012.
Kathy is a very experienced SENCO (special educational needs coordinator) and a fully qualified EYFS Practitioner.

Zoe Brett (Deputy Manager)
Zoe is our fantastic Deputy who will be very ably assisting Kathy at Maple Cross. Zoe, who is level 3 qualified, brings over 6 years’ experience from within pre-school settings. This experience in providing professional leadership and management, as well as helping to ensure that all children receive the highest standards of care and education, will be a fantastic addition to our dedicated team. Zoe is committed to understanding and ensuring the requirements of the EYFS and Ofsted are met, but is also a keen advocate of outside child-led learning and experience through free-flow play.
