Footsteps Maple Cross Wraps up eco-friendly commitment!
Footsteps Maple Cross is committed to sustainability – recycling and reusing and re-purposing materials to not only protect our environment, but also to teach our children about its importance. Respecting and protecting the environment is an important part of our commitment to securing the best possible future for our children.
Alongside the eco-friendly initiatives at Footsteps like our allotment, reduction in plastics and educational activities, we support an organisation called WRAP. WRAP’s vision is a world in which resources are used sustainably. This association with Footsteps was born from a passion to change and provide a better world for our children. In today’s climate we have a duty to educate young people, from day one so it becomes a natural responsibility. We chose WRAP because it works with governments, businesses and communities to deliver practical solutions to improve resource efficiency by:
- Re-inventing how we design, produce and sell products
- Re-thinking how we use and consume products
- Re-defining what is possible through re-use and recycling
Our membership gives Footsteps access to a wide range of materials for our arts and crafts as well as our role play resources: from materials to tables, sears to natural resources. Activities, which also include crafting with natural and recycled materials, are designed to promote the development of personal, social and emotional life skills as well as introducing the children to basic social, maths, science and environmental messages. Manager Kathy Reynolds said “We have to engage a child’s natural curiosity and wonder at the earliest opportunity” she said. “Our eco-friendly initiatives are doing just that; inspiring staff and children alike and providing endless opportunities for fun and learning.”
