March Marks National Celebrations
There are so many special days, weeks, acknowledgements and celebrations throughout the year. March is a particularly busy time and we love to pay homage to these recognised days with our learning and activities. We always find unique ways to teach our children in an accessible and fun manner. So what are just a few of the things we have been up to?
Science Week
British Science Week is a ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths that took place between 11-20 March 2022! The theme for the 2023 British Science Week was ‘connections’ which is very apt as we watch our children make the connections in the world around them about how things work. Always looking at every opportunity to get in on the action to enhance our learning, some of our Footsteps sites took the opportunity to get experimental! We saw experiments with colours, sinking and floating seeing what happens when we leave eggs in vinegar. We made volcanoes and lava lamps, investigated computers and learnt all about reactions we also acknowledged International Maths Day with caterpillar finger print counting and singing our favourite songs with numbers like 5 little Ducks and 10 Monkeys jumping on the bed! We love to learn about the how, why and when in the world around us and Science week was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. A big thanks to all the teams for helping to ignite our children’s interest in science!
Mother’s Day
Mother’s day is one of our favourite celebrations and we took the time to talk about all the amazing things our mums, grandparents and carers do to make us feel special. We are sure that all our mums loved the cards, gifts and beautiful artwork from pom pom flowers to butterfly handprints. We also loved having our mums in for a stay and play at some of our sites. We hope they thoroughly enjoyed the activities and the cake! It was also lovely to have some of our mums in to take over story time.
St Patrick’s Day
We love to look at other cultures, countries and their celebrations and it was a “top of the morning to ya” as we celebrated all things Irish for St Patrick’s Day. It was a gorgeous green sensation as they created 4 leaf clovers, rainbows with pots of gold in a variety of mediums and of course, some very happy little leprechauns as they hunted for treasure outside.
What fun we have had this March and so much more to come in April!
