An Egg-citing Easter at Footsteps
As we are off for the Easter break at most of our Footstep sites, we thought we would take you on a whistle-stop tour of some of our egg-strordinary activities. We love springtime and all the amazing opportunities and themes it gives us to make learning fun and inspiring for our little chicks.
With Spring comes new life, and we as we talk about the meaning of new life behind Easter, have been busy enhancing our outside areas by planting seeds for new flowers and for vegetables and we have also enjoyed pointing out all the new flowers, leaves, blossom and animals we have seen as we entered a new season. At Oving, we were even fortunate to have a visit from some baby lambs who we were able to feed!
As ever we have been doing lots of cooking. This is such a fantastic way to practice so many of the skills we need to help nurture and develop. The children follow instructions, learn to share, pour, measure, mix, sprinkle, knead, fill, stir and so much more. We have been very busy in the Footsteps kitchens and have made Easter biscuits, chocolate nests, and enjoyed hot cross buns at snack time.
Of course there has been lots of crafts too as we refine those fine motor skills with cutting, sticking, colouring, painting, printing and making. There were Easter chicks a plenty as well as rabbits, bunny ears and using their carrots as paint brushes on international carrot day (yes there is such a thing!) and printing with potatoes to make egg shapes. We made lots of cards with Easter wishes and had Easter themed tuff trays to practice our maths skills, small world play and playdough.
Outside, we enjoyed hunting for Easter themed cards in the garden and checking them off our lists, as well as, finding flowers to make some frozen eggs to decorate the trees in our outside area. We even managed some science experiments putting eggs into vinegar, looking at floating and sinking and seeing how fast eggs roll down a drain pipe at different angles.
We rounded off our activities with a very special visitor from a famous Bunny. He even left us something very egg-citing to find! The children were very good at this so we hope the Easter Bunny realizes how well practised they are for Easter Weekend.
Wishing all our families some special time off together.
