A Special Visit From People Who Help Us
As a nursery we are always looking at ways of developing the children’s knowledge and understanding of the World around us. Last week at Chalfont St Peter, we were looking at the topic of ‘People who help us’ and being part of the community which contributes to this area of learning. This is a wide ranging topic with plenty of opportunity to make connections between people and places. It includes every aspect of the local community, from friends to childminders and from shopkeepers to fire fighters.
We have been enjoying lots of activities to support this topic – from songs and stories, to focused craft, dressing up and role play. We have also be very fortunate to be able to enrich this learning, with some very special visitors from the police and fire brigade, as well as a teacher and a dentist. It has been a fantastic way to bring the topic to life, which had the children fully engaged.
As you can see from just a couple of images captured from the session, the children absolutely loved sitting on the police bikes, and getting to see the fire truck up close.
Manager Kelly Carter added: “It was a really valuable learning experience for the children which they enjoyed immensely. A big thank you must go out to those parents of our children that gave up their time to volunteer to come and speak to us. The enthusiasm from our visitors ensured that the children really got the most out of this very special experience.”
