Unveiling the Magic of Words: National Storytelling Week at Footsteps
In the enchanting realm of Footsteps, where curiosity blooms and imaginations take flight, we turned the page to step into a new adventure in National Storytelling Week. This annual event, which runs from January 27th to February 3rd, is a testament to the power of stories in shaping young minds and fostering a love for language and creativity.
The Magic of Stories:
At Footsteps, we believe in the transformative power of storytelling. National Storytelling Week provides a perfect opportunity for our little learners to delve into the world of words, where every tale becomes a stepping stone in their educational journey. Stories have the ability to captivate, inspire, and ignite a passion for learning, making it an integral part of our curriculum.
Celebrating Diversity in Narratives:
During this special week, Footsteps Pre-School celebrated the diversity of narratives that exist in the world. Our dedicated team of staff introduced our children to stories from various cultures, traditions, and perspectives. From the classic tales of “The Three Little Pigs” to the whimsical adventures of “The Gruffalo,” our tuff trays were brimming with literary delights, allowing children to immerse themselves in the magic of these timeless stories.
Engaging Activities:
To make National Storytelling Week memorable, Footsteps planned a range of engaging activities for our little storytellers. Parents and grandparents were invited to share the joy of reading by coming in to read their favorite stories, creating a heartwarming connection between home and school.
The children embarked on exciting walks, leaving books as gifts for the local community, fostering a sense of generosity and community spirit. They also wrote their own imaginative stories, and drawing and painting their favourite characters – unleashing their creativity and discovering the joy of crafting narratives from their own minds.
Storytelling in Action:
Our children showed us their superb role play skills as they brought stories to life through various activities, acting out beloved tales like “The Tiger Who Came to Tea,” “Dear Zoo,” “Going on a Bear Hunt,” and “Goldilocks and the Three Bears.” These dramatic play sessions not only enhance language development but also allow children to express themselves and develop social skills.
Culinary Adventures:
The magic of storytelling extended to the kitchen as well. The children engaged in cooking activities, making porridge for the Three Bears, cheese moons for the Cheese Monster and creating a delightful fruit platter for the Hungry Caterpillar. Exploring exotic fruits and vegetables from “Handa’s Surprise,” they discovered the sensory pleasures of different textures, colors, and flavors.
Nature’s Stories in Forest School:
In Forest School, the children recreated the enchanting world of “The Stick Man.” Through hands-on activities and exploration, they connected with nature, fostering an appreciation for the outdoor environment. They were able to use natural resources to create their own stick men to take home.
As we concluded our journey through National Storytelling Week at Footsteps Pre-School, we celebrated not only the magic of stories but also the joy of learning, creativity, and community. Together with parents, grandparents, and our dedicated team of creative staff, we have woven a tapestry of experiences that will remain in the hearts and minds of our children, guiding them on a lifelong journey of discovery through the enchanting world of words.
