Celebrating World Earth Day at Footsteps
As we celebrated World Earth Day, we were reminded of the beauty and wonder that our planet offers us every day. At Footsteps we use the opportunities that national days of recognition provide to delve into a world of discovery and appreciation for the world around us -engaging our little learners in various activities that foster a love for nature and environmental stewardship.
Gardening Adventures
Our young gardeners have been busy planting a variety of vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, beetroot, cabbage, spring onions, and carrots. Through hands-on experiences, they learned about the lifecycle of plants and the importance of nurturing our green spaces. We also sowed seeds for tomatoes, peppers, aubergines, and wildflowers, teaching our children the value of patience and care as they eagerly await the sprouting of their plants.
The Butterfly Journey
A new batch of caterpillars joined us, captivating our children as they witnessed the magical transformation from caterpillar to butterfly. This experience provided a tangible lesson on growth, change, and the beauty of nature’s cycles.
Themed Tuff Trays and Bird Feeders
Our themed tuff trays allowed children to explore various textures and materials, sparking curiosity and creativity. We also hung bird feeders around our outdoor spaces, inviting our feathered friends to visit and fostering an understanding of wildlife habitats.
Protecting Our Planet
We engaged in meaningful discussions about recycling, emphasizing its importance in protecting our wildlife and oceans. Our children learned about the impact of waste on the environment and ways they can contribute to a cleaner, healthier planet.
Outdoor Adventures
Our expansive outdoor spaces provided the perfect backdrop for nature walks, where children observed ducks, swans, and vibrant flowers. Fishing in the pond was another exciting activity, allowing our little adventurers to connect with nature first-hand.
Despite the rainy days, we embraced the joy of puddle jumping, celebrating the simple pleasures that nature offers us.
Creative Expressions
Themed arts and crafts were a highlight, with our children enjoying mess-free painting to create earthy colours in zip lock bags. These activities encouraged self-expression while reinforcing the importance of creativity in appreciating our natural world.
World Earth Day at Footsteps Nursery & Pre-school was a celebration of discovery, learning, and connection. Through engaging activities, meaningful discussions, and outdoor adventures, we hope to play our small part in nurturing a sense of wonder and responsibility in our children for the future of our planet.
