Nursery Rhyme Week at Footsteps Watermead
During the 11th-15th November we dove into the magic of National Nursery Rhyme Week, celebrating the timeless songs that help little our children learn, grow, and connect! Nursery rhymes are more than just fun sing-alongs – they’re a powerful tool for early development, particularly in communication and language, one of our key focuses this year.
From 5 Currant Buns to Old MacDonald and Incy Wincy Spider, these beloved rhymes provide so much more than entertainment – although we love that part too! They help with:
Language Skills – Repetition and rhythm help children expand their vocabulary, practice pronunciation, and develop early listening skills.
Social Interaction – Singing and performing actions with others boosts confidence and builds connections.
Cognitive Development – Rhymes encourage memory skills, sequencing, and storytelling abilities.
Fine & Gross Motor Skills – Songs with actions, like Incy Wincy Spider, promote coordination and physical activity.
At Footsteps Watermead we love using these rhymes to engage our young cohort in fun, meaningful ways, encouraging them to explore sounds, words, and movement. Whether they’re counting or making currant buns, mimicking farm animals and role playing down at the farm in our tuff tray, or making playdough replicas and climbing up spouts like spiders, our children are learning the foundations of communication in playful, supportive environments.
Whilst we love celebrating this special week, we love nursery rhymes all year round. Why not keep the fun going at home? Unleash your inner child and join in with your little ones as they sing and play – it’s a great way to bond and boost their skills!
