Welcome Back to a New Term at Footsteps!
At Footsteps, we pride ourselves on providing a nurturing environment where every child can thrive. As the new term begins, we’re committed to helping our little ones explore, learn, and grow through hands-on experiences. We’re thrilled to welcome back all our children and families after the Christmas break. With the cold weather settling in, there’s no shortage of exciting activities and opportunities for learning and exploration this winter.
Embracing the Season Outdoors
The cold temperatures have been perfect for some invigorating outdoor play! We’re encouraging the children to wrap up warm in their coats, hats, and gloves to enjoy winter walks, where they have been able to discover the delights of the season, spot seasonal wildlife, and make tracks in the frost-covered grass. Running and playing in our outdoor spaces is not just great for keeping warm but also wonderful for developing gross motor skills and fostering a love for nature.
Winter-Themed Crafts and Messy Play
Inside in the warm, our creativity is in full swing with winter-themed crafts. From snowmen to printing winter scenes, we’re embracing the magic of the season through imaginative and sensory activities. Messy play continues to be a firm favourite, with children exploring textures and materials like icy water, shaving foam “snow,” and glittery playdough. These activities spark curiosity and develop fine motor skills while allowing our children to express themselves and explore their senses.
Engaging Role Play Adventures
Our role-play areas have also been transformed to reflect the winter season. Children can immerse themselves in imaginative scenarios, from building cosy dens to setting up pizza restaurants and pretend cafés serving hot chocolate and afternoon treats. These activities nurture social skills, collaboration, and creative thinking.
Looking Ahead to February Festivities
This term is just getting started, and we have so much more in store! February brings plenty of exciting celebrations, including Pancake Day, where children will enjoy flipping (and even tasting!) pancakes. Valentine’s Day will be a time for crafting heart-shaped cards and learning about kindness and friendship and Chinese Year will light up our cultural celebrations.
We’ll also celebrate other special days and events, helping the children learn about the world around them. From storytelling and songs to cooking and crafts, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
